Celebrating Children's Day Event

This project was proposed and approved in October 2012 under the guidance of Linda Glew.

Children's Day is a non-commercial annual day founded in 2000, with the vision of celebrating and nurturing our children. Core values of the day are: giving time, praise and encouragement, listening and talking, love and affection, and new experiences, using low cost or no cost activities that engage children of all ages.

The project objective was to engage local groups, churches, early education and schools, families and businesses in this event - and to highlight that Motueka is a great place for children and families.

The group helped organise the 2013 event on the first Sunday in March 2013. This experience provided a platform for building annual neighbourhood events for children and activities for neighbourhoods, and an increase in the number of families and neighbourhoods being engaged in these activities together.

From 2014 onward the event is being run by the Family Service Centre and Strengthening Families, and based around one big event - a Pool Party - at Parklands School. Vision Motueka supports the event but is not a partner in organising or running it.
